Accessibility

Wathaga for everyone

Community knowledge belongs to everyone in the community, including people with disability, Elders, and people who use assistive technology. We build Wathaga to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, which includes every requirement of WCAG 2.0 and 2.1.

What you can do

  • Use a keyboard for everything. Press Tab to move, Enter or Space to act, Escape to close a panel. The first Tab on every page offers Skip to main content.
  • Move board cards without dragging. Open a card and use Move to change its list or its place in the list.
  • Change how pages look. Display options (top of the website, bottom of the workspace sidebar) gives larger text, a plain font for headings, extra spacing, underlined links and reduced motion. Your browser zoom (up to 400%) and your device's settings, such as reduced motion, also work.
  • Use a screen reader. Pages have landmarks, headings and labelled controls; status messages such as “Saved” are announced; charts have a text summary and a table view.
  • Turn journey tips on or off in the workspace's Display options.

How we test

Every page of the website and workspace is checked with the axe-core accessibility engine against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 (levels A and AA), with a colour-contrast check of all text and manual keyboard and focus testing. Colours from our brand and from the UN Sustainable Development Goals are adjusted where needed so text keeps at least 4.5:1 contrast.

Known limitations

  • The Getting started video on the FAQs page does not yet have captions or a transcript. The chapter list beside it summarises each section. Captions are being prepared.
  • Maps are visual. Each map has a table or list with the same information, and the data can be downloaded.
  • Files that members upload, such as PDFs and photos, may not be accessible. Ask the person who shared them for another format.
